Encountering Error Code 45 on your disk partition can be a significant hindrance, particularly when it affects your system's performance. This guide is designed to demystify this error and offer a detailed, step-by-step solution to resolve it. For clarity, the instructions will be demonstrated using the Windows 10 operating system.

Proceeding with the guide.

What Is Error Code 45 on Your Disk Partition?

Error Code 45 usually indicates that Windows cannot communicate with a hardware device because it is not physically connected to the computer. However, this error may still arise even when the device is connected, due to issues such as corrupted system files, outdated drivers, or registry problems.

The typical error message states, "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)."

To resolve this issue, you can try several solutions such as reconnecting the device, manually uninstalling and reinstalling the device driver, running the Windows Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter, running System File Checker, running CHKDSK, running a DISM scan, or updating your device drivers.

How To Fix Error Code 45 on Your Disk Partition

Before doing anything more involved, try these common and quick fixes first:

  • Update Windows: Go to Settings, click on Update & Security, then select Windows Update to check for and install any available updates.
  • Restart your computer: Click on the Start menu, select Power, and choose Restart.
  • Check the connection: Ensure all cables are securely plugged in and try reconnecting any loose connections.
  • Check for hardware issues: Try the disk on another PC and confirm it?s working.

If these didn?t help, read on to resolve Error Code 45 on your disk partition:

1. Run Windows Troubleshooters

Windows is equipped with built-in troubleshooters that can automatically resolve a variety of common issues, such as Error Code 45. The troubleshooting approach varies, however, based on whether your operating system version precedes or follows Windows 10 build 1809.

I?m running a version that came after Windows 10 build 1809 and it doesn?t have Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter in the Control Panel. Here are the steps:

  1. Type Windows PowerShell on the search button beside the Windows icon and hit Enter.
  2. Select Run as administrator

  4. Windows will now verify the system files and automatically fix any detected issues. Once the verification is complete, exit Command Prompt. Then, reconnect your hardware device and check if it?s working properly.

4. Run DISM Scan

The Deployment Imaging Service and Management Tool (DISM) is capable of repairing a corrupted system image, potentially resolving more profound Windows issues that the System File Checker (SFC) cannot.

  3. Restart your computer. Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver automatically.

6. Run CHKDSK

Running CHKDSK is crucial for detecting and fixing disk-related issues that impact hardware connectivity and performance. This utility helps to confirm that the disk is error-free.

Follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows key, type cmd, and tap Enter.
  2. Select ?Run as administrator.? If prompted for permission, click ?Yes.?

Restart your computer to let CHKDSK scan and fix disk errors.

Note: Performing a disk check may take a considerable amount of time. If you are unable to conduct it during your next startup, you have the option to bypass it and reschedule the check by adhering to the previously mentioned steps.

If troubleshooting doesn?t resolve the issue, consider replacing the faulty hardware component with a new one.
