W3C releases encryption recommendations

THE XML ENCRYPTION Working Group within the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) has released two revised candidate recommendations, one entitled XML Encryption Syntax and Processing, and the other entitled Decryption Transform, W3C said on Friday. According to the W3C, the organization’s XML Encryption Activity is expected to wind down during the course of this summer, absent substantive interoperability or performance problems. W3C also said there is demand for using XML Encryption with Web services but this work has to be chartered as part of a new or existing Web services activity. W3C this week also said it has released XHTML 1.0: The Extensible HyperText Markup Language (Second Edition) as a W3C recommendation. Version 1.0 is a reformation of HTML in XML, to give “rigor” of XML to Web pages, according to W3C. The second edition brings Version 1.0 recommendations up to date with comments from the community and ongoing work within the HTML Working Group and the first edition errata, W3C said.
