TCAT/C-C++ and TCAT/Java increase runtime

Software Research has released Version 3.1 of Test Coverage Analysis Tools TCAT/C-C++ and TCAT/Java. The new version offers improved runtime and includes a new all paths generator (APG). The APG calculates the total number of segments, nodes, and 1-trip paths in the program; cyclomatic complexity of the object; shortest and longest paths; highest level of iteration; number of basis paths; and number of iterative paths based on the depth of repetition. Version 3.1 also includes better CallTree and Digraph graphics.

A demo or evaluation version of Test Coverage Analysis Tools Version 3.1 can be downloaded for free.

SilverStream Software unveils J2EE Connector Architecture 1.0

Part of the forthcoming Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) 1.3 standard, SilverStream Software’s J2EE Connector Architecture is a specification that connects J2EE technology-based applications to a broad array of enterprise information systems. The J2EE Connector Architecture is an e-business platform designed for building integrated and interoperable e-business solutions. J2EE Connector Architecture 1.0 offers comprehensive connectivity to enterprise systems and enables corporations to leverage more of their existing systems and IT assets using industry standards.

SilverStream Software will be incorporating J2EE Connector Architecture 1.0 as part of its SilverStream e-business platform products shortly after the commercial availability of J2EE Version 1.3.

Java deployment platform available for Intel Itanium servers

Through its Early Access Program, Tower Technology is releasing TowerJ Java deployment platform for Linux Intel Itanium-based servers. Using that platform, organizations can move Java-based applications onto Intel Itanium servers to begin testing and optimization. The Tower Early Access Program also includes access to the TowerJ SDK for Itanium Servers and services from Tower’s Professional Services group. TowerJ is now available on Red Hat Linux, TurboLinux, and SuSE Linux, and it will be available for Windows during 2001.

Servertec releases new Internet server written entirely in Java

The new Servertec Internet Server, Version 1.10.0 is a scalable platform-independent application Web server written in Java, which will run on any platform that supports Java Version 1.1.x or later. Servertec Internet Server features support for database and file-based distributed session persistence and caching; custom, console, file, database, and email monitor event handlers; and customer, plain, and secure socket handlers. The new release also includes an expanded API, bug fixes, and updates to documentation. Developers can use Servertec Internet Server for serving static Webpages and for generating dynamic, data-driven Webpages using Java Servlets, JavaServer Pages, iScript, Common Gateway Interface, and server-side includes.

The new Servertec Internet Server is available immediately. A free preview release is available for 90 days and can be downloaded at the company Website. A binary subscription to Servertec Internet Server is available for ,500 for the Professional Edition and for ,000 for the Enterprise Edition.

jFactor enhances Java code

Instantation’s jFactor for VisualAge Java is a comprehensive set of refactoring tools that allow developers to improve the code of their Java programs. jFactor increases development productivity and reduces costs by simplifying and automating developers’ code refactoring efforts. The tool features new refactoring commands, including extract method, inline method, rename field, push-up and pull-down fields, and methods.

jFactor for VisualAge Java is available immediately and can be downloaded from the company’s Website. The list price is 95 per developer.

Java applet provides new mobile phone services

Syndeo’s new Mobile Telephony Console (MTC) is a downloadable Java applet that provides mobile access to the company’s Class 5 services. The MTC is an optional adjunct to the Syndeo Syion 426 IP-based Class 5 softswitch platform. By downloading MTC, any PSTN phone will feature the same advanced telephone services of office phones, including blocking or accepting calls and distinctive rings for specified callers. The MTC adjunct is a laptop-based Web interface that runs on all Java-enabled browsers. Users can activate it via the Web from any remote location using commands on the MTC screen. The Web interface allows the user to manage and configure preferences over the Internet by transferring the services to the PSTN bearer channel. MTC also offers a set of realtime call control and preference configuration features.

The Mobile Telephony Console is currently available to customers of the Syion 426 softswitch. List prices range from .50 to 1.00 per subscriber, depending on the number of subscribers.

Digital Airways unveils Java-based WAP microbrowser for Palm

Wapaka for PalmOS, a microbrowser written entirely in Java and designed for KVM Java virtual machine, transports across any platform offering KVM. The product, developed by Digital Airways, provides the following features:

  • Allows users to open several WAP sites at once
  • Is customizable in look and feel
  • Works with different communication protocols such as GSM and GPRS, Bluetooth connections, and infrared connections

M-1 Server enables wireless development

Aligo has developed a 100 percent Java Mobile Application Server, the M-1 Server, a downloadable solution that allows Java developers to build sophisticated wireless applications without using wireless protocols, programs, or markup languages. The M-1 Server addresses every step of building, deploying, and maintaining mobile applications. The server features:

  • A Presentation Engine that supports all available mobile devices, markup languages, and browsers
  • A Session Manager that transparently manages the session data application state
  • A Unified Messaging Services Manager that gives every wireless device multimodal messaging capabilities
