GigaSpaces updates JavaSpaces-based platform
March 22 — GigaSpaces has upgraded its synchronization and coordination software infrastructure for information collaboration. Originally a single-server platform, GigaSpaces Platform 2.0, a commercial implementation of Sun’s JavaSpaces technology, is now a distributed, multiserver, clustered platform.
E-XMLMedia launches data entry software for the Internet
March 22 — E-XMLMedia has introduced a beta version of XForms Engine (XFE), an implementation of the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) XForms standard for Internet-based data entry systems.
BlueMoon allows mobile users to work on and offline
March 22 — Airtuit has released BlueMoon 4.0 Mobile Application Server and BlueMoon Micro Edition. Based on the PersonalJava Platform for Pocket PC devices, the BlueMoon tools enable mobile users to work in both online and offline modes, regardless of service interruptions.
Ashnasoft releases new version of JMS product
March 22 — Ashnasoft Corporation has launched AshnaMQ 2.0 Enterprise Edition, the latest release of its real-time anywhere messaging platform. Based on Java Message Service (JMS), Version 2.0 features support for real-time Web, wireless, and Microsoft Office applications.
Manning publishes Bitter Java
March 22 — In Bitter Java, published by Manning Publications, Bruce Tate details the causes and solutions of common server-side Java programming mistakes. In addition to illustrating common pitfalls, Bitter Java presents antipatterns for basic Java and Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) concepts.
X-Hive previews new database release
March 22 — X-Hive has released a technology preview for X-Hive/DB 3.0, its native XML database. This release supports XQuery 1.0, XPath 2.0, DOM Level 3 Load and Save, and DOM Level 3 Abstract Schemas.
Java 2 Micro Edition provides wireless development guide
March 22 — In Java 2 Micro Editon, James P. White and David A. Hemphill clarify Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) development issues, such as user interface creation, event handling, data storage, networking, and input/output. Published by Manning Publications, the book includes code examples and a tutorial application.
OC Systems announces RootCause Enterprise Edition
March 22 — At JavaOne, OC Systems will present a new edition of its application problem management tool. RootCause Java Enterprise Edition traces Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) applications at the servlet and Enterprise JavaBean (EJB) levels to provide information on calls and call timing.
UnwiredTec enhances wireless image generator
March 22 — UnwiredTec Group has introduced version 2.75 of its Wireless Media Creator, a Java API for dynamic generation of wireless images, and WML (Wireless Markup Language) and XML documents. For this latest version, UnwiredTec has increased support for WBMP, OTB, and NLM images, operator logos, and user-defined fonts.
JDK 1.4 Tutorial now available from Manning
March 22 — Developers will learn about the new features of the Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) in Manning Publications’ JDK 1.4 Tutorial. Written by Greg Travis, the book details Java’s new I/O system, persistent preferences framework, Java Web Start, and Java regular expressions.
Iona hosts Web services development challenge
March 22 — At JavaOne 2002, Iona will launch the Dream Warrior Challenge, an online game to give developers hands-on experience creating Web services with Iona technologies. The challenge requires developers to complete certain tasks, each worth a specific set of points. The winner with the most points will choose one of six prizes: a British racing and Formula One driving experience; a golf trip; a tour of Paris, Nice, Monaco, Venice, and Florence; a trip for four to a major championship football game in January 2003; or four separate spa weekends.
AltoWeb and Flashline partner for Java component reuse
March 22 — AltoWeb will merge AltoWeb Application Platform with the Flashline Component Manager. The combined solution allows developers to create and manage Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE)-based applications, and reuse Java components across enterprise applications.
Recursion acquires ObjectSpace products
March 22 — Recursion Software has acquired Voyager, Java Generic Libraries (JGL), and C++ Toolkits from ObjectSpace. Voyager enables the construction of distributed applications and supports SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) and WSDL (Web Services Description Language). JGL is a toolkit providing a series of data structures and generic algorithms. C++ Toolkits is a series of C++ portability class libraries based on ANSI/ISO standards.
