PointBase enhances relational database suite; Manning publishes JMX guide; esmertec expands JVM product line; and more
PointBase enhances relational database suite
October 4 — PointBase has announced version 4.4 of its Java database and synchronization products. PointBase Embedded 4.4, a Java relational database management system (RDBMS) for embedding in Java multithreaded applications, includes faster, more efficient Cluster Table organization, a new feature that controls the behavior of concurrent access to data, and user callable temporary tables. Version 4.4 of PointBase UniSync, a Java-based synchronization product, features increased speed and performance. And PointBase Micro 4.4, a Java RDBMS with a footprint of less than 45K, has also been updated.
Manning publishes JMX guide
October 4 — Ben Sullins and Mark Whipple explain the Java Management Extension specification in Manning Publication’s JMX in Action. Through examples, the authors show how to create MBeans, extend JMX classes, develop JMX adapters for Jini and the TCP protocol, and combine JMX with J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) technologies.
esmertec expands JVM product line
October 4 — esmertec has introduced Jbed i-ME, a Jbed Micro Edition CLDC (Connected Limited Device Configuration) virtual machine that supports NTT DoCoMo’s DoJa Profile 2.0 and the MIDP (Mobile Information Device Profile) 2.0. The company’s Jbed Micro Edition Platform provides the JVM, associated libraries, APIs, and provisioning services for developing NTT DoCoMo i-mode applications.
Actional launches Web services management platform
October 4 — The Actional SOAPstation transforms loose collections of Web services into business assets. The Web services management platform provides a unified point of control for Web service provisioning, version management, business activity monitoring, and end-to-end security across a Web services network. In addition, Actional SOAPstation lets companies manage changes to the Web services network without disruption.
AdventNet brings JMX to business-level management tool
October 4 — ManageEngine Suite 5, a J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) management solution from AdventNet, is now available. This software framework allows customers using the Java Management Extensions (JMX) standard to track the business impact of application performance.
ObjectAssembler integrates with Sun ONE Studio
October 4 — ObjectVenture has announced that ObjectAssembler 2.0 can now plug in to the Sun ONE (Open Network Environment) Studio IDE. Object Assembler is a J2EE software development environment that automates design and simplifies the use of software design patterns.
Wakesoft adds Oracle support to server
October 4 — The Wakesoft Architecture Server now supports Oracle9i Application Server. Wakesoft’s tool provides a consistent structure that drives reuse, flexibility, and control across enterprise applications.
Canoo updates thin-client framework
October 4 — Canoo has released Ultra Light Client (ULC) 5.1, a thin-client framework based on Java and Swing. ULC extends HTML-based Web architectures with rich GUI clients. Version 5.1 includes a new tree component, improved table and table-tree components, further reduced network traffic between the UI (user interface) engine and the server, and WebSphere integration.
Cape Clear adds transactions to CapeConnect
October 4 — Cape Clear Software and Choreology have announced a partnership that will bring Choreology’s Cohesions 1.0 functionalities to CapeConnect. The product integration adds standards-based transactional support to Cape Clear’s Web services platform.
Sun announces new J2ME APIs and J2EE improvements
September 27 — At JavaOne Japan, Sun Microsystems introduced three new J2ME (Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition) APIs: Mobile Information Device Profile 2.0, which delivers enhanced graphics and security; Mobile Media API, which provides new audio and video capabilities; and Wireless Messaging API, which improves instant messaging capabilities. Sun also previewed J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) 1.4, which includes Web services support integrated with servlets and EJBs (Enterprise JavaBeans), a new connector architecture, standard J2EE management, and deployment functionalities.
Ilog launches JConfigurator 2.0
September 27 — The newest version of Ilog’s business rule management system combines optimization technology, enabling customer preference-driven configuration, with business rule management features, thereby giving business users control of the product and service configuration process. In addition to integrating with Java and Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE), JConfigurator 2.0 now supports Web services via Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP).
Sybase enhances PowerDesigner
September 27 — Sybase has released PowerDesigner 9.5, the latest release of its modeling and design tool that supports multiple modeling techniques within one environment. The tool supports nine UML (Unified Modeling Language) diagrams and is Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE)-compatible. Version 9.5 features new business process modeling capabilities and enhanced UML-based object modeling.
Air2Web increases its Java capabilities
September 27 — Air2Web Mobile Internet Platform 5.0 incorporates new features for global message delivery and mobile app development with Java and XHTML. The platform now supports the development of client-side applications for Palm, RIM (Research In Motion), and J2ME (Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition).
Hit adds new features to JDBC middleware product
September 27 — Hit Software has announced that the new release of its JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) SQL middleware product supports distributed transactions and static SQL for DB2 databases running on z/OS, OS/390, and OS/400 platforms. Hit JDBC SQL middleware complies with the industry standard for Java applications.
TogetherSoft announces Mac and WebSphere support
September 27 — TogetherSoft’s development environment, Together ControlCenter, will now feature support for Mac OS X. Also, later this fall, TogetherSoft will introduce Together WebSphere Studio Edition, which will integrate analysis, design, implementation, testing and deployment of enterprise applications into one platform. The tool will enable WebSphere Studio users to collaborate across modeling and code development disciplines.
Innoopract releases W4 Toolkit 1.1
September 27 — The WWW Windowing Toolkit (W4 Toolkit) from Innoopract provides an object-oriented Java framework with graphical objects and layout managers. Release 1.1 is a refactoring release with performance and stability improvements, plus new high-level components, input validation, and built-in HTML compression.
Tangosol updates clustered data management and caching product
September 27 — Tangosol has added support for data redundancy to Coherence 1.2.1, the latest version of its Java-based clustered data management and caching product. Coherence adds clustering to any J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) server and delivers instant access to data in WebLogic, WebSphere, or other J2EE server cluster.
PolarLake integrates Sun ONE into enterprise platform
September 27 — PolarLake has updated its enterprise XML and Web services platform for Java. PolarLake 2.0 features improved support for XML Schema and enterprise messaging middleware standards, plus enhanced management capabilities. Version 2.0 also includes integration with Sun ONE (Open Network Environment) Studio.
Birdstep announces new databases
September 20 — Birdstep Technology has introduced its first true native XML database, RDM (Raima Database Manager) XML, which supports both Java and C++. The company also updated its embeddable database, RDM Mobile, to version 2.0. It also includes native C++ and Java interfaces.
Poseidon for UML 1.4 now available
September 20 — Gentleware has released version 1.4 of its UML CASE (Computer-Aided Software Engineering) tool. Based on ArgoUML, Gentleware’s Poseidon for UML comes in standard, professional, and community editions.
Davisor Chart enables interactive charts and reports
September 20 — Davisor has released a new version of its Web charting and reporting J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) component suite. Davisor Chart 3.2 provides a component set that lets Java developers create and publish dynamic and interactive charts and reports. It features a JSP (JavaServer Pages) custom tag library, plus support for XML importing and exporting and WML (Wireless Markup Language).
Amber Archer enhances class library with SOAP
September 20 — Amber Archer has launched San Jacinto 1.9.5 with SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) 1.1 and SOAP with Attachments support. The Java class library is compliant with JAXM (Java API for XML Messaging) 1.1 and SAAJ (SOAP with Attachments API for Java) 1.1 and fits into a 120K footprint. It also includes caching and pooling, rule and macro parsing, XML-to-Java binding, and remote J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) server administration for JBoss and WebLogic.
Dirig adds Sun ONE support to Fenway solution
September 20 — Dirig Software’s Fenway provides real-time monitoring and management for Web applications and individual J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition)-based component connections. Version 3.0 also includes new support for the Sun ONE (Open Network Environment) Application Server 7.
Prentice Hall publishes Web services guides
September 20 — In Web Services: A Technical Introduction, authors Harvey and Paul Deitel, B. Duwaldt, L. K. Trees, and Sean E. Santry explore Web service business models and standards. The book covers .Net and Java Web services, security, corporate adoption strategies, networks and brokerages, and vendors and platforms. Java Web Services for Experienced Programmers written by Harvey and Paul Deitel, Santry, J. P. Gadzik, and K. Lomeli, covers the main Web services standards and protocols, such as XML, SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol), WSDL (Web Services Description Language), and UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration).
Atlassian updates Jira
September 20 — Version 1.4 of Atlassian’s J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition)-based, issue tracking and project management application is now available. Jira 1.4 includes a simple interface, file attachments, email notifications, and more.
Teamstudio for Java audits Java apps
September 13 — Teamstudio has introduced an audit tool for testing, debugging, and documenting Java applications. Teamstudio Analyzer for Java features rules for standards compliance, unused elements, and common coding issues, and includes built-in support for Eclipse, JBuilder, and Ant.
JProfiler points out performance bottlenecks
September 13 — ej-technologies has launched JProfiler, an all-in-one Java profiler for managing performance risks. With support for the major J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) application servers, JProfiler integrates CPU, memory, and thread profiling into one application.
Hitachi announces Quadrasis EASI Express
September 13 — Quadrasis EASI (Enterprise Application Security Integration) Express from Hitachi Computer Products provides prebuilt authentication, authorization, and attribute services for securing C++ and Java applications. The tool features plug-in security for Web services and single sign-on capabilities.
Oak Grove updates workflow engine
September 13 — Reactor 5.0.7, a J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition)-based workflow engine from Oak Grove Systems, is Web services enabled. The tool is compatible with the latest releases of most development platforms, application servers, and databases.
JRockit receives boost from Introscope
September 13 — Wily Technology has incorporated its Introscope enterprise Web application management solution with the BEA WebLogic JRockit JVM. The product integration enables automatic monitoring of WebLogic and all applications running on the server to ensure application performance and availability.
Coldbeans adds more tags to library
September 13 — Coldbeans Software has released a new version of its Coldtags taglib. This suite provides more than 105 custom JSP (JavaServer Page) tags for common programming tasks faced by JSP developers. The latest version includes custom tags resembling Web controls in the .Net framework.
Whizlabs releases test simulator
September 13 — J@Whiz, the test simulator for SCJP 1.4 (Sun Certified Programmer for Java 2 Platform 1.4) exam is now available. It features 10 mock tests, an interactive quiz, and revision tips.
