BEA to run on HP Itanium server

Could help integrate legacy, Web-based apps

BEA Systems’ WebLogic Server 7.0 software is now available on Hewlett-Packard’s (HP) Itanium 2-based servers, the companies announced Wednesday.

WebLogic Server is available on HP’s HP-UX 11i v 1.6 operating system, running on Itanium 2 servers. WebLogic Server 7.0 includes integration and business process management facilities that help speed development and deployment of applications, Alain Grambert, ISV (independent software vendor) business development manager for HP Europe said Thursday.

By bringing the software over to new systems, customers and system integrators will be able to integrate legacy and Web-based applications more quickly, the companies said in a statement.

HP introduced HP-UX 11i v 1.6 in July as a Unix operating environment for Intel’s Itanium processors. Because it is compatible with both older PA-RISC and the new Itanium-based systems, it makes transition to Itanium systems faster and easier.
