Motorola enhances developer program

March 15 — Motorola has revamped its third-party developer program. Targeted to wireless application developers, content providers, content packagers, and system integrators, the Motorola Applications Global Network (MAGNet) includes an interactive Web-based portal; access to Motorola technologies, SDKs, and tools; professional support and training; and market intelligence. The program also hosts live controlled wireless networks, test cases, and professional test resources.

DigiChat hosts developer challenge

March 15 — DigiChat invites developers to create a BOT for its open API DigiChat software. The company will include the winning BOT in its next software upgrade, DigiChat 4.0. Grand prize is ,500.

VistaPortal introduces first Jxta-based framework

March 15 — The VistaRepository from VistaPortal Software is a set of integrated services for facilitating peer-to-peer communication, secure file sharing, and network collaboration. A framework based on Sun’s Project Jxta peer-to-peer technology, VistaRepository creates a distributed working area where users can access, write to, and extract data from files and databases stored on remote servers or peers’ workstations.

PolarLake and SpiritSoft form alliance

March 15 — PolarLake has combined its development and deployment platform with SpiritSoft’s Java messaging technology to provide a platform for creating and deploying messaging-based XML and Web services solutions. The combined platform allows users to integrate Web services and XML offerings with legacy systems.

NeuVis ships NeuArchitect 4.0

March 15 — NeuArchitect from NeuVis Software is an integrated modeling/code construction system that facilitates Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) application development. Version 4.0 features new design, construction, and integration capabilities for increased productivity.

Cape Clear updates CapeStudio

March 15 — Cape Clear Software has released CapeStudio 3, an integrated Web services development environment. CapeStudio uses XML and Internet protocols to simplify the task of creating Web services for the Java and .Net platforms. Cape Clear has also upgraded its Web services-based integration platform, CapeConnect, with improved enterprise-level deployment capabilities.

CodeWarrior for Symbian now available

March 15 — Metrowerks has released development tools designed for the Symbian OS 7.0. In one IDE, the CodeWarrior Development Tools for Symbian OS, Professional Edition 1.0 allows wireless developers to develop C++ and Personal Java operating system components and applications for Symbian phones.

FileNet integrates LDAP and J2EE with Panagaon

March 15 — FileNet has updated its Panagon suite of enterprise content management solutions with lightweight directory access protocol (LDAP) and Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) support. Panagon users can now use LDAP-based directory services solutions to authenticate network users and import enterprise content into Web-based applications.

Ontopia Knowledge Suite adds J2SE 1.4 support

March 15 — Ontopia has released the Ontopia Knowledge Suite 1.3, a toolkit for building topic map-based solutions. The suite includes a 100 percent Java topic map engine, a framework for building Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) 1.3-compliant Web applications, and integration with full-text search engines. In version 1.3, all components now support the Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE) 1.4.

SolarMetric expands Kodo’s enterprise abilities

March 8 — Kodo JDO (Java Data Objects) Enterprise Edition 2.2, a tool for accessing relational databases, is now available from SolarMetric. Version 2.2 offers increased integration with J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) application servers, such as WebSphere, BEA WebLogic Server, and JBoss.

WebLogic EJBs can now access ZeoSphere Server

March 8 — Zeosoft has integrated ZeoSphere, its on-demand mobile server, with BEA WebLogic Server. Now, Java-based applications can wirelessly communicate with the ZeoSphere Server running on mobile devices. The ZeoSphere Enterprise Proxy makes Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs) from a WebLogic application directly accessible to ZeoSphere Server.

Metrowerks opens wireless development centers

March 8 — Metrowerks now offers live testing facilities to wireless application developers, handset manufacturers, and middleware vendors. The wireless development centers provide access to Metrowerks’ CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access), GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) (2G), and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) (2.5G) services.

Motorola and HillCast Technologies bring financial news to Java phones

March 8 — MidCast V1 is a network-enabled Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) -based financial application for Motorola’s iDEN networks. Delivered by Motorola and HillCast Technologies, the application streams continuous, real-time financial market information to Java-enabled mobile phones.

Transvirtual Technologies launches Web services engine

March 8 — Transvirtual Technologies has introduced XOE, an enterprise Web services engine that supports Windows XP, Linux, and Java. Built on XML and Java technologies, the XOE framework is a standards-based, multilanguage application development environment. It offers package management, rapid application development, and portability for embedded clients.

PopChart delivers graphs as Web services

March 8 — Corda Technologies has released PopChart 4.0, a charting/graphing solution. Version 4.0 supports XML and the .Net and Java platforms, allowing users to create charts and graphs as a Web service.

MKS integrates with WebSphere IDEs

March 8 — MKS has integrated MKS Source Integrity Enterprise with WebSphere Studio Application Developer and WebSphere Studio Site Developer. IBM WebSphere developers now have advanced software configuration management abilities. Developers have access to such capabilities as check in/out; create project; create sandbox (private developer workspace); and file merge/compare.

O’Reilly publishes Web Services Essentials

March 1 — In Web Services Essentials, Ethan Cerami explores four technologies used in Web services development: XML Remote Procedure Calls (XML-RPC), Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), Universal Discovery, Description, and Integration (UDDI), and Web Services Description Language (WSDL). The book provides Java tutorials, sample code, XML document samples, and explanations of the free Java APIs used in Web services creation.

Espial and Devicetop.com announce developer contest

March 1 — The Devicetop.com Smart Device Developer Contest 3 is now underway. Sponsored by Espial and Devicetop.com, the contest challenges developers to build interactive applications for the digital cable set-top-box market. Deadline is July 31, 2002, and prize pool totals 4,000.

Data Junction improves data transformation suite

March 1 — The Data Junction Integration Suite 7.5.5 supports e-document and message-based integration, and supports the latest XML transactions. Among its many improvements, this latest version features a Java-based Map Parallelizer and an improved Java Adaptor.

ReportMill 5 now available

March 1 — ReportMill Software has updated ReportMill, which provides PDF, Flash Webpages, and reports for Web applications. Version 5 is written in Java and supports Java-based Web application servers.

EspressChart ES organizes data into dynamic charts

March 1 — Quadbase Systems has introduced EspressChart ES, a Java-based charting system. It provides a data visualization solution for enterprise-wide deployment, allowing users to organize and integrate dynamic charts into Webpages/applications with no coding.

Precise/Indepth picks out performance problems

March 1 — Precise Software Solutions has released Precise/Indepth 2.0 for BEA WebLogic Server. Precise/Indepth is the J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) application component of Precise i3, the company’s solution for application performance management. Version 2 features Precise’s SmarTune technology, which automatically identifies the causes of J2EE application performance problems and recommends corrective actions.

GemStone now supports JBoss

February 22 — GemStone Systems has added JBoss support to GemStone Facets 1.1, a shared transactional Java workspace. By providing a shared, transactional, and persistent view of object models across multiple JVMs and computers, GemStone Facets enables Java developers to create real-time Java applications.

BCT Technology launches “Napster” for code

February 22 — BCF Technology has launched the Site Raider.com Website and Site Raider 1.0 Web development tool. Site Raider allows developers to incorporate content or data from Web applications or sites for which they have appropriate access rights. Site Raider works as an aggregator, an analysis tool, and a code generator. Currently Site Raider emits Java source code, JavaScript, Visual Basic Script (Active Server Pages), and Cold Fusion source code.

JeeWiz! whips up Web services

February 22 — New Technology/enterprise has introduced JeeWiz!, a Java tool for developing, deploying, and testing Web services and J2EE (Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition) applications on BEA Systems’ WebLogic Server. JeeWiz! generates code for Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) 2.0, J2EE applications, and Java classes. It deploys to Weblogic Server 6.1 and provides documentation in HTML.
