INDEXHEAD: e-@ction Meta Services Engine now active with Java tools

Unisys has incorporated Java-based tools into its Unisys e-@ction Meta Services Engine, an object-oriented repository of application-development metadata. The Complex Information Manager (CIM) and Integrated Component Framework (ICF) tools help developers share and reuse software elements. The CIM offers repository-based metadata management capabilities that adhere to the Meta Object Facility (MOF) specification — an OMG standard for defining and sharing metadata in heterogeneous environments. CIM was developed with the JDK 1.2.2 and offers UML metamodel support, database persistence using JDBC technology, XML and XML Metadata Interchange, and distributed services using ORBs. The Java tools help developers coordinate software projects across an enterprise by supporting information-sharing across development tools.

INDEXHEAD: Codemesh unveils JunC++ion

Codemesh has introduced JunC++ion, a technology that lets Java and C++ code work in conjunction. Programmers can write code in the language that best resolves a problem, and then rely on JunC++ion to combine the mixed-language solution. C++ developers can use JunC++ion to obtain access to Java classes that offer the capabilities needed in a C++ application. JunC++ion automatically creates C++ proxy classes that compare to Java classes and generates exception-handling and error-checking routines.

JunC++ion Release 1 is available for Windows 2000, Windows NT, and Windows 98 environments.

INDEXHEAD: Software Research presents embedded Web-testing tool

Software Research has unveiled eValid, a browser-based Website-testing tool. The tool displays pages exactly as they will be seen by users by embedding the testing functionality into the browser. The embedded application then captures a user’s online actions and creates scripts that can later be played back. The program is controlled via a point-and-click menu located within the browser. Other features of eValid include:

  • Content validation and functional testing
  • Loading and capacity analysis
  • Automated testing wizards
  • Website timing and page tuning

A single browser session license of eValid is priced at 50. A load license for an unlimited number of browser sessions is priced at ,000.

INDEXHEAD: Delano unveils Java Edition of e-business offering

Delano Technology is now shipping a Java Edition of its Delano e-Business Interaction Suite, an e-business package that supports Java, J2EE, and EJBs. The Java implementation of Delano’s e-Business Suite facilitates the platform’s deployment across Red Hat Linux and Sun Solaris systems. Support for IBM AIX and HP-UX is expected by the end of 2000.

The Java Edition of the Delano e-Business Interaction Suite contains the Delano e-Business Application Builder, the Delano e-Business Interaction Server, and the Delano e-Business Interaction Server Administrator. The Application Builder provides developers with a component-based development environment; the Interaction Server offers a Java-based server for coordinating and executing e-business applications. The Administrator offers a browser-based management console and allows administrators to configure and manage e-business applications remotely and locally.

INDEXHEAD: WebGain updates TopLink with WebSphere support

WebGain has updated its Java object/relational (O/R) database mapping technology by adding support for IBM’s WebSphere Application Server. The O/R mapping application, dubbed TopLink for IBM WebSphere, helps developers incorporate enterprise Java applications into relational databases by automating the integration task.

WebGain’s TopLink gives developers a scalable container-managed persistence (CMP) solution that enables EJB entity beans to be stored in relational databases without any SQL coding. TopLink supplements the EJB 1.1 specification with caching options, full inter-bean relationships, and a querying system that allows dynamic finder methods and object-level queries. TopLink also features a visual mapping tool, non-intrusive mapping mechanisms, and object-level transactions.

TopLink for IBM WebSphere is expected to ship in the fourth quarter of 2000.
