Java Media Framework 2.1.1 extends J2SE’s multimedia capabilities

Sun Microsystems’ new Java Media Framework (JMF) API software enables multimedia developers to incorporate audio, video, and other time-based media content into Java applications and applets. Designed for the Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE), JMF 2.1.1 is an API package for multimedia on the Java platform; it gives developers a toolkit for developing scalable, cross-platform technology. The JMF 2.1.1 API provides a unified architecture for capturing, streaming, and transcoding audio and video content across most major operating systems. JMF 2.1.1 extends the Java platform’s multimedia capabilities by offering RTP/RTSP and other advanced media processing capabilities. The new JMF technology supports media types such as QuickTime, Microsoft’s AVI format, and MPEG-1. JMF 2.1.1 runs on the Java Platform, versions 1.1 and higher.

BitFlash Mobility Suite delivers platform-independent user interface capabilities

BitFlash has released the BitFlash Mobility Suite, a new Java-compliant software platform that delivers graphics and a user interface that works with wireless and handheld devices. BitFlash Mobility Suite allows users to send complex graphical and interactive data to multiple mobile devices. The platform also features bandwidth-efficient delivery and publish once, render everywhere assurance. The suite includes the BitFlash Server, the BitFlash Visual Interface System (VIS), and the BitFlash Server Software Development Kit (SDK). Codemesh has released betas of JunC++ion 1.1 for Solaris and JunC++ion 1.0.1 for Windows. The JunC++ion platform was developed to provide businesses with a solution for integrating Java and C++ components. JunC++ion accomplishes Java/C++ integration without JNI or CORBA. Using JunC++ion, C++ clients can function in an Enterprise JavaBeans environment, Java servlets can Web-enable C++ applications, and Java and C++ components can use the same set of APIs, such as Java Message Service. JunC++ion 1.1 for Solaris and Junction 1.0.1 for Windows feature a more efficient runtime library and improved documentation capabilities. JunC++ion 1.0.1 allows users to import a single Java classfile directly from a jar file, eliminating the need to import the entire jar file.

Intuitive Systems updates Optimizeit profiling solution with J2SE support

IBM releases WebSphere Application Server 4.0

The latest version of WebSphere Application Server supports Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE), which allows users to uniformly build Java business applications. Designed to handle e-business transactions, WebSphere Application Server 4.0 extends the functionality of the System/390 and zSeries servers for enterprise e-business by offering improved scalability, performance, security, and availability. WebSphere 4.0 incorporates open industry standards — such as HTML and CORBA — as well as J2EE-compliant Java technology for servlets, Java Server Pages technology, and Enterprise Java Beans. IBM added J2EE support to WebSphere 4.0 in order to let users scale new e-business applications and transactions for global deployment. Version 4.0 of WebSphere runs on the IBM OS/390 operating system and the new z/OS 64-bit operating system.

Hyperion introduces Java-enabled tool for building custom business analysis applications

Built using Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) specifications, the Hyperion Application Builder works with leading application servers and provides an open standards-based architecture. Part of Hyperion’s business analysis software platform, the Hyperion Application Builder enables the creation, development, and deployment of scalable Web-centric business analysis applications. The Hyperion Application Builder features a comprehensive set of value-added APIs, components, services, and application templates that allows users to customize business analysis applications. Developers can use those tools to create application-specific displays and other specified functionality that suits their company’s business requirements. New PTSC debugging tool features Java implementation

New Java DB connection-sharing tool facilitates access to multiple threads of database search results

Kobu.Com has released jdbshare 1.1, the latest version of its JDBC-compatible database connection middleware. jdbshare connects diverse Web applications and provides connection pooling and caching of database search results. The connection pooling functionality allows simultaneous access to multiple threads of database search results and ensures that database connections are shared by multiple threads. jdbshare 1.1 features a row-level caching feature. The row cache enables the system to cache individual database rows in the jdbshare memory. That feature also allows multiple threads to simultaneously update column values of the database rows. jdbshare 1.1 runs on Java 2 Standard Edition-compatible JVMs and with server applications and server software running on JVMs. jdbshare 1.1 is compatible with the JDBC 1.0 and JDBC 2.0 core packages.

DB/XML Transform 2.0 implements standards-based XML technologies
