Manning publishes Ant development book

August 9Java Development with Ant by Erik Hatcher and Steve Loughran describes powerful and creative uses for Ant. The book shows readers how to compile, test, package, and deploy an application, and presents solutions to situations common in projects such as enterprise Java applications and Web services.

Advanced Systems enhances conversion tool

August 9 — Advanced Systems Concepts has released version 2.0 of its RIO (Rpg Into Objects) tool. RIO is a conversion tool for the AS/400 or iSeries that automatically converts RPG into C++ programs or Java classes. Version 2 uses IBM’s Web Facing tool to create JavaServer Pages (JSPs) in place of the display files.

ObjectAssembler 2.0 now available

August 2 — ObjectAssembler is ObjectVenture’s visual Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) development environment. Version 2.0 supports J2EE 1.3 and Struts, and provides real-time synchronization between an application’s visual representation and its source code.

VisiComp releases RetroVue 1.1

August 2 — VisiComp has updated its RetroVue debugger tool to version 1.1. RetroVue graphically displays the state, execution, and thread interactions of Java programs so developers can trace bugs back to their root. Version 1.1 features a command-line launcher, a GUI (graphical user interface) launcher, and save/load capabilities.

Tangosol improves Coherence’s clustering capabilities

August 2 — Tangosol has added distributed caching and automatic cluster restart capabilities to Coherence 1.2. The tool adds clustering to any Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) server.

Visual Numerics combines IMSL with Java

July 26 — Visual Numerics has released JMSL 2.0, mathematical, statistical, and charting classes written for Java. JMSL combines the mathematical and statistical functionality of the IMSL set of algorithms with Java, allowing developers to create network applications that perform complex data analysis and visualization across multiple groups or regions.

Websina zeroes in on bugs

July 26 — Bugzero from Websina is a Web-based bug and defect tracking system written in Java. Version 1.4 includes a GUI (graphical user interface)-based setup program.

RemoteApps introduces testing framework

July 26 — RA TestHarness is a Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) testing framework from RemoteApps. The tool tests individual software units of code through standard class tests.

Amber Archer updates class library

July 26 — San Jacinto 1.9.1, Amber Archer’s latest Java class library, includes a re-architected XML-to-Java binding layer. This version also fixes the previous library’s bugs.

Covont launches Web framework for Java

— Covont Software has released Advanced Application Platform 1.0, an event-driven Web application framework for Java application servers. Built on top of the Java Servlets API, the platform is compatible with most app servers.

Zeosoft and IBM team up

July 19 — Zeosoft will integrate IBM’s DB2 Everyplace relational database into its ZeoSphere Server, a Java-based application server that resides on mobile devices. The combination of these two products will allow organizations to use IBM storage technology in the mobile space.

AdventNet updates middleware manager

July 19 — AdventNet has introduced the AdventNet Middleware Manager 4.0 WebLogic Edition. This latest version features JMX (Java Management Extensions)-based management of Web application ecosystems.
