Inprise updates Java tool

Inprise/Borland this week announced JBuilder 4, the latest version of its Java-based cross-platform development environment. In this version, the company addressed team development, JavaServer Pages, and support for more application servers, according to Tony de la Lama, vice president and general manager of Inprise/Borland’s Java business unit. JBuilder 4 tightly integrates with the Borland Application Server and now offers support for BEA Systems’ WebLogic server. According to officials at the companies, users can seamlessly run and debug Enterprise Java Beans (EJB) and CORBA applications locally or remotely in the JBuilder environment and deploy the EJB instantly without shutting down the application server. According to de la Lama, Inprise also plans to support more application servers in the future, such as IBM’s WebSphere and the Sun-Netscape Alliance’s iPlanet. “We’ve been discussing this with both, and we really think there is a need for it,” de la Lama said. The JBuilder 4 productivity environment supports EJB 1.1-compliant development on Windows, Linux, and Solaris platforms. JBuilder 4 also includes enhancements such as new visual two-way tools, designers, and wizards, such as the entity Bean modeler, that shorten the development and deployment of e-business applications. Other features include support for Java 2 Version 1.3 and the JDataStore 4 pure Java Object Relational Database Management System for Web, mobile, and embedded applications
